Visual Basic Script (VBS) is a scripting language developed by Microsoft, primarily used to automate tasks in the Windows operating system. VBS allows users to write scripts that can interact with system files, applications, and perform repetitive tasks efficiently. While it is commonly used by system administrators and developers for legitimate purposes, VBS is also frequently exploited by cybercriminals to deliver and execute malicious payloads, such as viruses, worms, or ransomware. Because VBS scripts can be embedded in email attachments or web pages, they pose a significant security risk if opened by unsuspecting users. Organizations often restrict or monitor the use of VBS to reduce the risk of cyberattacks.
