SweynTooth is a collection of over a dozen zero-day vulnerabilities discovered in 2020 that affect Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol stacks used in millions of IoT devices. These vulnerabilities allow attackers within wireless range to crash devices, disable BLE connections, or even take control of affected devices without authentication. SweynTooth exploits stem from flaws in the implementation of BLE stacks by various manufacturers, making a wide range of products - such as medical devices, smart locks, fitness trackers, and industrial equipment - potentially vulnerable. The impact of SweynTooth is significant due to the widespread adoption of BLE technology and the difficulty of patching embedded devices. Manufacturers have since issued firmware updates to address these vulnerabilities, but many unpatched devices remain at risk.
