Soldermask is a protective coating applied to the surface of printed circuit boards (PCBs) during manufacturing. Its main function is to insulate copper traces from accidental contact, oxidation, and environmental damage. By covering areas of the PCB that should not be soldered, soldermask helps prevent solder bridges and short circuits during assembly. The coating is typically green, but other colors like red, blue, and black are also used. Soldermask not only enhances the durability and reliability of PCBs but also improves their appearance and makes them easier to handle during the production process.
