SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol) is a simplified version of the Network Time Protocol (NTP), designed to synchronize the clocks of computers and network devices over a network. Unlike NTP, SNTP does not provide advanced features like error checking or sophisticated algorithms for clock accuracy, making it faster and easier to implement but less precise. SNTP is commonly used in smaller devices, such as routers, IoT devices, and embedded systems, where high accuracy is not critical. It operates by exchanging time-stamped messages between a client and a time server, allowing devices to maintain reasonably accurate system time for logging, security, and network operations.
