Preimplantation testing, also known as preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), is a procedure used in assisted reproductive technology to screen embryos for genetic abnormalities before they are implanted into the uterus. This testing is typically performed during in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles. Cells are biopsied from embryos at an early stage and analyzed for specific genetic disorders or chromosomal anomalies. The goal is to select embryos with the best chance of developing into a healthy pregnancy, thereby reducing the risk of inherited diseases and increasing the likelihood of successful implantation and birth.
