Mesh networking is a network topology where each device, or node, connects directly to multiple other nodes, forming a decentralized network. Unlike traditional networks that rely on a central router or server, mesh networks allow data to be transmitted between devices through multiple possible paths. This structure increases redundancy and reliability, as information can be rerouted if one node fails. Mesh networking is commonly used in wireless networks to extend coverage, improve resilience against outages, and enable seamless communication among devices. In cybersecurity, mesh networks can enhance security by reducing single points of failure and making it harder for attackers to disrupt the entire network.
