In cybersecurity, 'manual supports' refer to temporary structures, adjustments, or interventions created by human operators to stabilize, secure, or embed components during system maintenance, incident response, or vulnerability management. Unlike automated tools, manual supports are implemented through direct human action, often in response to unique, complex, or unforeseen scenarios where automated solutions are insufficient. Examples include manually configuring firewall rules, temporarily restricting access to sensitive systems, or applying custom patches to address zero-day vulnerabilities. Manual supports are critical in situations requiring flexibility, rapid adaptation, or expert judgment, but they may introduce risks if not properly documented or removed after their necessity has passed.
