The management plane is a critical component of a network or IT system responsible for handling all administrative and configuration tasks. It provides the interfaces and protocols that allow administrators to manage, monitor, and configure devices, services, and policies within the network. Unlike the data plane, which handles the actual transmission of user data, and the control plane, which manages routing and signaling, the management plane focuses on operational oversight, including user access, device settings, and system updates. Securing the management plane is essential, as unauthorized access can lead to significant security breaches or disruptions in service. Common management plane interfaces include SSH, web-based GUIs, and APIs.
