Hypnocracy refers to a system of governance or control in which digital and algorithmic technologies are used to subtly manipulate public perception, consciousness, and behavior. Through pervasive use of algorithms, data analytics, and targeted content, hypnocracy shapes opinions, beliefs, and even decision-making processes, often without individuals' explicit awareness. In cybersecurity, the concept highlights concerns about the influence of social media algorithms, deepfakes, and psychological operations (psyops) that exploit vulnerabilities in human cognition. Recognizing hypnocracy is crucial for defending against manipulation campaigns, misinformation, and erosion of critical thinking in digital societies.
