In cybercrime, a 'front' refers to a person, organization, or business entity whose identity or operations are used to disguise the true perpetrators of illicit activities. Cybercriminals use fronts to obscure their involvement, making it difficult for law enforcement to trace illegal actions back to the real actors. Fronts may be unwitting participants or complicit in the scheme, and are often used in money laundering, fraud, or the distribution of illegal goods and services. By interposing a front, criminals create layers of separation between themselves and their crimes, complicating investigations and hindering attribution.
