An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by an electric current. Unlike permanent magnets, electromagnets can be turned on or off by controlling the flow of electricity. In cybersecurity and related hardware contexts, electromagnets may be used to interact with embedded magnets for mechanisms such as secure locking systems, physical access controls, or even propulsion in certain devices. Their ability to be remotely controlled makes them useful in systems requiring dynamic or programmable magnetic fields.
