Dot aliasing is a feature in certain email services, such as Gmail, where adding periods (dots) anywhere in the local part of an email address does not affect its delivery. For example, emails sent to john.smith@gmail.com, johnsmith@gmail.com, or j.o.h.n.smith@gmail.com all reach the same inbox. This functionality allows users to create multiple variations of their email address for filtering or tracking purposes. However, dot aliasing can also be exploited in phishing or account fraud, as attackers may use these variations to bypass filters or create deceptive accounts that appear distinct but are functionally identical.
