DHCP, or Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, is a network management protocol used to automate the process of configuring devices on IP networks. It dynamically assigns IP addresses and other essential network settings, such as subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS servers, to devices (clients) on a network. This eliminates the need for manual configuration, reduces errors, and simplifies network administration. DHCP operates using a client-server model: when a device connects to the network, it sends a request to the DHCP server, which then allocates the necessary configuration parameters. DHCP is widely used in both home and enterprise environments to efficiently manage IP address allocation and ensure seamless network connectivity.
