A CVE Identifier (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures Identifier) is a unique alphanumeric code assigned to publicly known cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Managed by the MITRE Corporation, CVE Identifiers standardize the naming of vulnerabilities, making it easier for organizations, researchers, and security tools to share and reference information about specific threats. Each CVE Identifier includes a year and a unique number (e.g., CVE-2023-12345). By using CVEs, the cybersecurity community can consistently track, discuss, and address vulnerabilities across different platforms and products. This system helps improve communication, coordination, and response to security issues globally.
