An airgapped network is a security measure where a computer or network is physically isolated from unsecured networks, such as the public Internet or other less-secure local networks. This separation is achieved by ensuring there are no physical or wireless connections bridging the gap between the protected network and external networks. Airgapped networks are commonly used in environments where security is paramount, such as military, government, or critical infrastructure systems. The lack of connectivity makes it extremely difficult for cyber attackers to access or exfiltrate data remotely, though risks from insider threats or removable media still exist. Maintaining an airgap requires strict policies and monitoring to prevent accidental or intentional bridging.
